Since 2010, GEARNET has emerged as a regional network that includes a broad range of individuals and organizations that are involved in the Northeast groundfish fishery. This unprecedented network includes people and organizations with expertise in fishing, fishing gear conservation engineering, fishery management, fishery stock assessment, fishery-related social science and fishing gear extension and outreach. The GEARNET organizational structure includes a Principle Investigator (PI)/Coordinating Group that oversees the program, the Technical Committee which includes the PI/Coordinator group and reviews and develops projects, and a large Participant Group that is engaged in developing and carrying out projects and includes fishermen, technicians, deck hands, and net-makers.
